Here is how I spliced a cable I cut with my lawnmower.
Use a cable cutter to remove 1/2 inch to 1 inch of the outer shield.
Cut a short ( 6 to 8 inch ) piece of the next size aluminum tubing
(5/8 for 1/2 inch cable, 7/8 for 3/4 inch cable)
and split the ends lengthwise for 1 inch.
Slide the above sleeve over one piece of the cable FIRST.
Use a short piece of 1/4 inch copper tubing to splice the center
conductors and solder. Wrap with some good
electrical tape.
Slide the aluminum tubing sleeve across the junction and center.
It is probably a good idea to use some Penetrox
or ALNO-OX at the ends. Tape the ends well and
place hose clamps over each taped end.
This splice has been working for years and the cost is right.
