OK, I'm picking up 240' of 55g tomorrow. Me and K5XM and W5ZO plan on
putting up two towers. Lets assume for a moment they will both be 120'
in height.
According to the rohn catalog a 120' 55g tower in 90mph winds can handle
23.1 square feet of antenna (15.1 + 8 for side mounts that won't be on
the tower). This 23.1 is on top of the tower.
Now if one starts stacking yagis at various heights, does the 23.1
square feet still hold or does it change? Does that number go up or
down since the square footage is spread all over the tower. For example
if the tower was only 100' the square footage increases to 24 square
feet. Not a big jump but I have to assume the tower can handle more
antenna at the 40' level than at the 120' level.
So how does one safely determine how many antenna's (square footage
wise) can be stacked on the tower?
