K1VR: Bldg Inspectors always "sign off" on a project when it is done by
signing some sort of piece of paper which is then filed in your houselot
file. Find out what that is called in your jurisdiction, and get it
signed. You want to be able to demonstrate that the bldg insp thought
that the base was constructed safely. Why? When the neighbor gets wound
up, he'll certainly claim that the twr is unsafe. You will counter with
the signature of the bldg insp.

K1VR: The self-same neighbor who gets wound up and claims this thing is
unsafe can also be countered when you produce a letter saying that the
twr is covered at no additional premium. Another way of arguing that it
ain't dangerous. If it were really dangerous, the insurance company
would want an additional premium to cover the additional danger. Not a
very strong argument in classic logic, but it has a certain appeal. You
say: "Look, the insuarance company is in business to know what's
dangerous and what isn't. They charge extra when you put in a swimming
pool or take up skydiving. They don't for antenna supports. Can you see
the message?"
Part of the effort here is to get "neutrals" to "take your side." Of
course the hams will argue what they argue, but what do disinterested
persons say?
>Good stuff! I need to get some more info from ARRL on the property
>value
>thing... I believe they have something on the subject.
K1VR: They have one study done in CO. The argument I make is logically
correct (if it lowers property values, property taxes should go down --
they don't and therefore they don't), and will put a smile on the faces
of other neighbors. It will tend to show that you are a clever fellow
with an impish sense of humor. Better to have them smiling with you than
laughing at you.
You want to be seen as friendly and charming, while your neighbor is
seen as an angry man. Start walking your kids and dog around the
neighborhood. Smile and wave.
