Sounds scary Roger. Glad you came out of it reasonably well.

( I have 52 ft of 1.5"x 4' sections of mil surplus aluminum mast ( one
by one LIFT- then INSERT the next at ground level) laid into a 40 ft
walnut tree, tied at the bottom to the tree trunk and guyed at the top
with five 3/16" cords. Been up for 5 yrs now but only at the mercy of
the winds)

I did notice a relative paucity of 160m G's OTA during the contest.
And F's as well.

160 seemed fair to good Fri night but Sat night had very few new ones
- and with weaker sigs.
Finished with 63 Q's 12Z and 31 countries on TB in my all-band entry.

Higher bands had amazing echos/flutter at night time ( esp. 40/20)
that rendered my 7610's digital processing all but useless on stations
from the northern latitudes.

Will look for your always impressive signal on TB!

Bob

PS Among my all band Q's were:
G0MTN-G1SCT-G3P-G4BUO-G4DDL-G4IIY-G6T-G8X-G9W-GM3YOR-GM3YTS-GU4CHY-GW5R-M0BPQ-M0WJE-M0X-M2A-M6T-MM3T-MM7N-MU0FAL-MW2I-MW5B.
all but a couple were on 40/20, many with afore-said echos.

***On 160= M6T was the ONLY G in my log!

Well 160m DX conditions were pretty good all week, so I was looking
forward
to working lots of NA stations in the contest.

However, we had a HUGE storm here in the north of England - 100mph
winds
(worse I have ever known). So I came on at 0000Z, and checked the
VSWR on
my 160m antenna . . . surprised that it was still up!

I started at the bottom of the band, and worked 1 NA station (came
back
first call) . . . went a bit higher and called the next NA station I
heard
and . . . heard the Linear Amp flashing over ! My antenna had just
come
down. Real shame, as tuning around on my Receiving Loop, signals were
 pretty good.

Apologies to all the stations I told I would look out for in the
Contest !

Anyway . . . put the Antenna back up after the weekend, and installed
a
slightly higher mast at one end, which has got it much higher above
the
trees (which have grown since I first put it up), so there should be
less
 wasted absorption.

 I will be on 160m tonight looking for reports . . .
