Frank W3LPL raised the subject of Polarisation Coupling Loss as another factor
which can affect results and this discussion.  Fortunately such facilities as
RBN, WSPR and skimmers are now available to us to help explore the A/B
conundrum.
Every since my exploits on 160m back in the 90s, PCL has always been of
interest to me so some years ago I raised this subject with W8JI as he had a
dipole at 300ft and suggested another orientated at 90 degrees may help solve
the riddle, alas it was not to be.

I have often wondered if a suitably designed beacon could be of interest, but
beacons below 10MHz are not recommended by IARU, presumably due to bandwidth
constraints but the use of FT8 and similar technologies could help overcome
some of the concerns.
Food for thought.
