Enjoy reading the posts on TB DX! Pleaase keep 'em coming. I learn
tidbits from them as well as picking up on when cndx are especially
good. Sep-Oct has proven to be quite good. especially to VK( at my SR)
and to much of EU from my SS up until 0300z.
But at 175 worked/154 confirmed, new ones are slowing way down so
every new one helps. (Covid sure has put the crimps on dxpeditions!!!)
Plus 160 prop sure is tough to figure. When I hear good cndx I mark my
calendar 28 days ahead to watch out for good openings ( + and - 2
days) Ditto when I read about them on here.
The emails are much appreciated at this end.

John OX/OZ1LXJ was a nice addition to the log yesterday evening
around
0930z. He was not easy copy at the time, but good enough to call.
Despite his "Ugly QRN" we made the contact. I also had storm static
making it difficult, despite there being no significant thunderstorm
activity in my region.
I continued listening to John over the next hour or so, until well
after
his sunrise, when he was readable up to nearly an hour post his
sunrise
on a then, very quiet band. Signals from US East Coast were very
weak.
Two interesting observations were noted.
1. After our QSO, I was switching directions on my Beverage array,
and
found him much stronger on my South Beverage, when I expected the
signal
from the North. VK3IO also noted John's signal was better from the
South.
2. The QRN decreased maybe 45 minutes after our QSO, and John also
noted
his end quietened down, so we suspect propagated QRN from somewhere
else.
I have noted signals coming from unexpected directions before, with
NA
coming in on a couple of occasions from the South, and often from my
Beverage aimed at the Caribbean, when direct path is around 70
degrees.
This usually occurs when there is some geomagnetic activity.
I'll start looking for EU in our mornings soon, as with sunset
getting
later, and Daylight Saving here, I have to stay up until well after
midnight to follow the NA sunrise.

I am curious, why Wednesday night ( when many have to get up and go
to
work the next morning?) instead of Friday or Saturday?
Was on.. on and off? the only station on CW early in the evening was
OX/OZ1AHJ.. and then a "G????"? a bit later but was who ever it was
in
and out of the QSB couldn't pull it out. It is still early here in
the
season. We are about as far south as you can get in the USA (FL) so
we
don't get the propagation like the fellows up in New England do.
JA's were in strong this morning at sunrise
We are an equal opportunity operator and there were a couple of
Russians
on FT8 not much else heard here on that mode either

I think I was the one who first suggested Wednesday night aka
Thursday
morning UTC, because the CWOps 0300z session wraps up at 0400z after
which
I prowl around 160 a bit looking for EU DX.
I know there are several EU's who I work every week in the 0300Z
session so
they are already up in the middle of the night.
I myself have just begun putting my 160 RX antennas back together...
and of
course we have the pre-Stew this weekend!
