If your tower isn't high enough to get a high impedance looking down the
tower to ground on 160 meters - a possible solution is to make a trap using
something like 20 feet of tower and a variable capacitor. Adjust the cap
for maximum current in the drop wire - or minimum current below the trap in
the tower. You can construct a transformer to measure the current in the
tower with some ferrite around one tower leg and a couple of windows of
wire with a resistor (something like 50 Ohms should work - but not
critical).
That will help make sure most of your current all goes up the tower instead
of down.
In other news - my 97 foot tower at the new QTH now has the MonstIR on top
of it and will be loaded with a gamma match before the PreStew in October.
