For the past 12 years I have used 4 elevated radials (alone)
about 20 feet high which are tapered to very near the ground at the
feed point for about 20 feet. There is a small fence 20 feet from
the feed point. This was all required by horses and riders in the
field. This 87 foot "T" antenna has worked very well.
HOWEVER, if I had it to do over--I would change the taper
from 20 feet at the radial ends down to 10 feet for the last 20 feet
near the feed point.
AND, if I didn't need to allow for the animals in the
field--I would taper each entire radial from the feed point up to 20+
feet at their ends.
