Hi Steve  - I also made a 2 band shielded loop back in the 1980's.

I recall discussing it with Doug DeMaw at the ARRL and he also told me a 
2 band loop would not work but it did.

This was for use inside my shack. Before computers, you could actually 
hear with an indoor loop. Not now!
