I haven't figured out how you actually *do* this. What gets an
"intercontinental" contact *started* in the DX window? Seems to me *every*
station has the right to call "CQ Intercontinental DX Only" there, or *no*
station has the right to do so. But I'm not aware of a shorthand for "CQ
Intercontinental DX Only", so we hear stations calling "CQ DX".
Or consider the responding station. In the heat of a DX contest, how many
are going to take time to stop and check that the DX station they hear
calling "CQ DX" in the window is actually defined as being on a different
continent? I, for one, don't know what *country* many of the new prefixes
are in, much less what continent.
It seems to me the DX window wording might have originally made more sense
for the ARRL DX contest than it does for the CQ WW. In ARRL DX it's easy to
posit that only DX stations (as contrasted to W/VE stations) should call CQ
in the window.
So then we're back to the purpose of the window. Maybe the rules should be
amended to say, "Only stations in the 100 most-needed countries (entities)
can call CQ in the window, and only QSOs with those stations shall be
conducted there."
Absent that, I'm inclined to feel the DX window has outlived its usefulness.
