This antenna may well fit some specific application with better efficiency than any other design. For instance an application that requires it can fit on a large truck, and be driven under bridges without having to retract any parts of the antenna. For fixed installations I'm sure the same amount of aluminum (or probably even less) could be configured as a top loaded vertical with a large radial system, and have a much higher efficiency.
