A full wave loop (which I prefer to call a "quad loop"), will radiate
straight up if it is mounted in a horizontal plane, even if it is 500
feet above ground!! It might be useful for short skip (straight up,
straight down) propagation, but any low-angle signal for DX use would be
virtually non-existent.
If the loop was mounted in the vertical plane and fed at one side
(vertically polarized), it would then radiate well at low angles and make
a very good DX antenna. Feeding the loop at the bottom (or top) would
result in horizontal polarization which would result in high-angle
radiation unless the loop was quite high above ground.
