I am reading with interest, all the comments about 160 DX nostalgia. My
first experience was listening to a couple of local Hams running AM on my
crystal set in the late 1940's as a young teenager.
Yes, I do remember those days of LORAN and 50 watt limitation. I can
remember when someone (don't remember exactly who) sailed west out of Hawaii
with his 160 meter receiver in tow. He published his findings in QST that
year. His findings concluded that USA signals died a short distance west of
KH6, and that would probably be the DX distance limitation for the band from
eastern USA. My, how times have changed!
Long live the memory of W1BB, Mr. 160 meter DXer in the 1950's.
