Fello Topbanders,
This last weekend I visited with my old friend Alan (K7CA) to have a =
look see of what it takes to be in top-ten list 160 contests from the =
west coast.
It takes a great location and the better part of five acres for 160 =
antennas that really work. Alans current antenna system is 2 driven =
elements half-wave spaced with 2 elements half-wave spaced as parasitc =
directors/reflectors. The reflector/directors are spaced 80 degrees from =
the driven pair. Each antenna has 8000 ft of radials. I've heard this =
location play both Tx/Rx. Alan worked about 120 countries last year =
running 100W. I think that speaks for itself. Wow!
I will also comment that he uses a unique 50 Ohm system unlike anything =
you have seen published. Needless to say it is elegantly simple. His =
antennas are simple veticals using the same toploading that I used back =
in the early 90's.( Balanced equal wires). Alan commented that he may =
publish this antenna system in the future so I will not disclose the =
details.
Now, if I could only get him to operate high power class in ARRL 160!

QRV CQWW/ARRL 160 with short vertical over 8000 radials (100W) See you =
in the contest!
