Yuri...I'll keep this short since it is not 160M related .
In the 1987-95 time frame this station was at or near the top of any and
every DX or WPX contest that was operated by Bob, KQ2M.
I had 4 high stacks on 10-15 and 20M and could switch upper pair, lower
pair or all four. Even the middle three was tried. The upper pair were
independently rotatable, the lower pair fixed on EU.
What was noted was that TX seldom equaled RX on short paths of rougly 3-4
thousand miles. Bob would have pileups calling on a particular
configuration but would have to switch in order to copy a call.
If he persisted on the RX antenna he would often get "repeat please"
until he switched back to the TX configuration.
This pattern persisted up, thru and down the solar cycle, my only
adjustment was the actual heights of the stacks to compensate. Bob would
typically open a band to EU even before the multis as witnessed by his
14150.350 "ownership" of 20M SSB.
But I digress....back to the QRN. If it helps you with your
theories...enjoy.
