I've been wondering about the poor conditions even with low
A and K indices. The apparently high absorption we are experiencing
reminds me of the "Stratospheric Warming" conditions that sometimes
occur at this time of year which causes high absorption on high
latitude paths. Normally WWV announces this in their propagation
reports but I wonder if they have curtailed their ususal STRATWARM
announcements because of budget cutbacks somewhere. I just checked
all past WWV announcements and see no mention of STRATWARM. Does
anyone know for certain if they have stopped this announcement or
maybe the absorption is caused by another phenomenon. Based on my
experience, if it is STRATWARM, poor high latitude conditions may
persist for several weeks. :-( Let's hope it's something else!
