In as much as low cost SDRs are so dependent on software and attached computer
this is one area not to go one the cheap. I use SDR Console and a HP modestly
priced (500.00) lap top. These in conjunction with the Funecube Pro+ make a
wonderful combo with lots of horsepower left over

It's just hard to understand how much HP we need for each different
solution.
That is why I only want to do the most basic thing, because my laptop is not
the latest greatest and I do not intend to buy the latest greatest.
There are plenty of servers available to supply spots and skimmer over
telnet.
Perhaps it's not quite as good as doing it from your own QTH, but it
certainly is useful and it costs ZERO - albeit you need a fast computer to
cope with all of the spots during a big contest.

I've read where others have used SDR receivers that allow monitoring several
bands at once, and displaying activity using CW Slimmer and other software.
One thing I have NOT seen mentioned, and I suspect it may be very important,
is the horsepower behind the software. I have a few modest Dell Optiplex
755 Dual Core machines in the shack. I'm not sure these up are to the task
of running NaP3, CW Skimmer and other associated programs (HRD,
etc.) at the same time. Rick says he has a laptop. Unless it is the latest
and greatest powerhouse, perhaps those limitations also need to be
discussed. I'd certainly appreciate a reality check regarding the computing
hardware needed to to this stuff.
