John,

  There is an easy way to be sure you don't move the pins while soldering
the DIN connectors with soft plastic bodies.  Get a matching chassis jack
and plug in the connectors part way while you are soldering.  This will
keep the pins aligned and not let them move.  Use a small tip and the fine
soldering techniques mentioned by others here today :-)
