John, that is NOT a mini-DIN connector. It is a standard DIN connector.
Mini DIN is half that size or less, and is used often in the Japanese
radios.
Indeed the mini-DIN is difficult to solder to, but the DIN is fairly simple
if you have the right size soldering iron.

Subject: [TenTec] Eagle Mini-Din (?) connector
I've used the ACC-1 connector that came with the Eagle to connect an
amplifier interface.
Unfortunately, due to the soft plastic or my poor soldering skills, it
almost melted when I connected to it. In looking for a replacement, all the
8 pin mini-din plugs that I assumed it to be had the big key in the middle
of them.
Anyone know the correct nomenclature or part number from a retailer, Mouser,
Digikey, etc? No, I don't want another one that I might melt. This is my
most disliked connector to start with - too many small parts to assemble to
make it whole.
Thanks for any help.
John, K4AVX
