John brings up a point not mentioned earlier, that is the MFJ reads and
stores the frequency information while the Eagle ATU only stores the band
data. Thus when RF is applied the MFJ reads the RF and determines that no
adjustment is necessary, thus the routine is very short. The Eagle not
having frequency information will automatically run the tune routine every
time TUNE is activated.
In my world of ham radio operation for the past 55 years, I've found that a
15 to 30 second delay in my operation, while waiting for the ATU to complete
its routine is not likely to cause me to miss any contacts. I just figure
that life is to short to be in that big of a hurry. Which brings up a
point, we all will end up at the same place at one time or another and that
is on the undertaker's slab at the mortuary. In today's frantic society, I
view that some will certainly get there before others. I plan to taking my
time for arriving at that event.

Thanks, Bob and others, for a helpful discussion. I understand it a little
better now. As to the question quoted above, obviously there's no
operational reason to ask for a retune on the same frequency; it was an
experiment to see what the tuner would do. (As I recall, if the 293B back
home were asked to do this, it would just blink for a fraction of a
second, indicating it already had a match.)
I agree with Bob on the "value added." Space is tight here at the camp,
and I appreciate both eliminating an external tuner and being able
conveniently to use the mobile bracket to mount the Eagle to the bottom of
a bookcase shelf (QRZ dot com photo). (No plans to mobilize the Eagle; I
use a 706IIG for that. The detachable face plate is a great feature.)
