It sounds to me like the BFO oscillators might need alignment.  Here's a
simple test:  transmit on your IC706 and tune in the signal on your Omni6
so signal is centered in the passband.  Then without touching the vfo
knobs, transmit on your Omni6 and see if its signal is centered in the
passband of the IC706.  It should be.
