Insulation left on the wire of an antenna does reduce wire corrosion,
protecting it from acid rain, and air. Another advantage in theory, is
its capacitance reduces the wire length needed by perhaps 2 per cent.
And the plastic should reduce static build up, once it has weathered and
developed some resistive loss. Ie, is no longer clean and smooth.
