We do use bolted and clamp connections in bonding our flat straps to our bus strap. Carefully cleaned and even using some no oxidizing compound or other protection from corrosion. The posted answer about bonding was a good general definition. You can also find rods thermally bonded to ground conductors by other than mechanical clamping. This is done by Thermite welding, where metal is melted at the bond.
