Part of that comes from Collins use of RF feedback to keep down intermod
products. Collins spec was 3rd order 35 dB down while most solid state
rigs hardly do 25 dB down 3rd order and have a lot more 5th and 7th
order products coming out. In the tube rigs, 5th was hard to find and
7th not looked for it was so small. That's not true with the solid state
amps. Not to say that the Swans with sweep tubes were all that linear
either.
