And don't forget the heat sink on the power supply !!  Particularly on a 
supply that you might be pushing pretty hard to put out 100 watts.

What I do in contests - and only on RTTY - is I turn on my amp.  I use the 
rig only as an exciter and run it at maybe 20 watts output - loafing.

My Amp has about 10 x gain (linearly measured) so I then get about 200 watts 
out.  That is loafing for the amp.

200 watts is enough more than 50 watts that I have found it to be a useful 
power increase.
