Thanks, everyone for the useful suggestions on my noisy fan problem.. The consensus seems to be that this is NOT normal, so I now have several things to try. By the way, TT Service advises that the fan should only just be turning when the Amp is cold, so it looks like my speed control needs adjustment too.
