Charles, I think discharging the antenna is a good idea. We do it when using large 1 wave around horizontal loops, but we actually put on continuous discharge networks of 100 kohm resistors, 2 watts. One on each side of the ladder line feeding the antenna. They go to a ground rod. Static build up is continuously bled off. They are carbon resistors.
