Winston:
As long as you run signals "line in" and "line out" between the radio and
sound card you should not have any problems. Don't try to run the output of
the soundcard, either line or speaker level to the MIC input of the radio.
Same true for signals from the radio back to the soundcard. The only
thing I've found that one needed was the correct gender and size connectors.
Now, if your soundcard only has MIC input and Speaker output, some form of
attenuation will be needed. Typically no more complex than a resistive L
pad made up of a series 10K to 20K resistor and a 1K resistor to ground. In
all cases, the series resistor goes toward the source and the 1K resistor is
across the load or input device.
The VOX is used for the TX/RX exchange, just set the hang time to zero.
Tune the Jupiter for normal value in TUNE or CW mode, switch to SSB and set
the Mike/Line level on the Jupiter for the level you use for SSB. Then
adjust the soundcard software mixer to produce some 30 to 35 watts output
power with PSK-31 data. You should not run the speech processor and you
should not see any ALC action.
