Don't wish to carry the thread to far: We had a chief that could copy two
separated broadcasts at the same time. Yes at 35 wpm.. This guy could also
copy and send at close to 60wpm. That copy are code groups(five letters in
each group). I ended up doing about 40wpm code groups..HI.

Don't know about WWII but when I arrived at the Navy
squadron & went to radioman school there, I needed 18
wpm to graduate. After flying as a radioman for 2 to 3
years we normally ran at about 25-28 but I ran with 2
fellows back at the base at 32-35wpm. I had to do 28
for 3 mins to get my speed key certificate. Just wish
I could do that today. Just got back into radio after
40 years and struggle to do 18 now. I know - practice,
practice, practice .....
