I was thinking of the old regen or super regen sans RF stage that
radiated about as well as it heard, but others nearby could tell by the
radiated signal that it was on and where it was tuned. So the only way
to let the world know we are listening is to transmit CQ or something.
It may come to pass on the microwave bands that we will have to beacon
to cause the adaptive spread spectrum links to move away from where we
want to receive our signals.
