I have had excellent results at many field days with a quality Van Gorden 
4:1 balun from the 450 ohm or 300 ohm feeders used for our loops of 2 waves 
and greater, to a short coax connected to our tuners enabling multi band 
tuning of the horizontal loops.

Usually a foot or two up to four of coax from tuner coax output to the Van 
Gorden 4:1 balun, then the ladder line.
