I have heard advice to ground the negative pin - never did it. Mine is on the floor -- under the desk -- and I leave it on all the time. After three years, it is still happy. If you power on your radio by leaving it's switch "on" and turning your power supply on and off, you may be getting a surge the radio is not liking.
