Denton, when you shut the radio off are you leaving the external P/S on?
Think I use to do that way my OMNI 6 a few years back but never ran
across a problem like yours, good luck and maybe try a Master Reset, 73

It has a fresh battery.
Is this typical of this rig?? otherwise no other problems have
surfaced..yet.
