Well, when I switch in 6 dB of (power) attenuation on my Orion, the
S-meter goes down by 1 S-unit.  Decibels usually  measure _power_
ratios.  Of course, you're right that the S-meter is traditionally
driven by the AGC voltage, but the meter scale will be marked to show
receiver input power.

In the Orion, the S-meter is driven by a digital-to-analog converter, so
the meter will say whatever the firmware wants it to say.

Mike, the 6dB of difference in S meters is VOLTAGE difference measured in
the AGC.

The doubling of transmitter POWER is 3dB power.

Confusing, isn't it?
