Some clarifications....
I didn't mean to imply I had two Orions,
I meant that I'm using the diversity reception on the Orion with really good
results.

Agree,
SO2R 4RX would be really a wonderful way, Using both RX of each radio on
a single frequency, with two antennas per radio ( one vertical plorized
and one horizontally polorized ) would be a very ideal station.
This combination has been yeilding some really good results for me lately.
With the Orion Filters, it could help draw in some of the weaker stations
that could really boost the scores.

It's a limitation of hardware - there would be some serious isolation
issues
involved with allowing one receiver to be open while transmitting at 100
watts on another band with the same piece of equipment. We did some
investigating of this early on in the Orion development (because as an
SO2R op myself, I really would have liked this). It was soon obvious
that the engineering challenge plus the hardware involved was going to
be too much effort and cost added to the rig to do it. We did leave on
all
the other "SO2R style" acoutrements like the second amp keying line, etc.,
but the muting of the opposite receiver while transmitting is not the
usual
modus operandi for the SO2R operator. The point of SO2R is to be doing
something productive while calling CQ rather than listening to your own
CQ's all weekend.
Solution: two Orion's.

Now that's an interesting question.
The Orion has two receivers and produces two sets of band data for
independent selection of antennas. However, for SO2R you would need to be
able to listen on one band whilst transmitting on another.
Currently that's not possible with Orion though if one of its receivers
is
completely independent of the transmit chain then in theory it could be.
I may be wrong but something tells me it's more than just firmware
limitations that prevent this.

Has somebody experience? Is this possible?
