Rob, I beg to differ with you...and notice that this is a private reply. I have no wish to start a great debate. I believe occupying 6 khz of bandwidth when three is sufficient to transfer the info is a waste. Having said that, I appreciate the quest for quality and the bottom line is, it probably makes no difference in the overall availabilty of spectrum for ham use, so go to it. Of course if I follow my own line of reasoning SSb is not necessary either...any number of digital modes, including CW will transfer the info. I gave up SSB on the hf bands long ago because the language and other foolishness going on were offensive to me. I guess that should disqualify me from making any comments about the mode anyhow.
