Thanks John,
well actually I am starting to wonder if it is worthwhile spending time doing
the review and trying to help. I was patriotically sucked into the preceding
hype and the wonderful service and listening to customers, backlog of orders,
I ordered this sixth piece of Ten-Tec radio in my arsenal and frankly
disappointed with its awkward ergonomics for the price and refusal to listen to
our
requests (yea, "stupid" no CW PTT on the mike connector).
If my opinions and suggestions are taken as attacks on holy TT, then this is
the last thing I want to do. One would expect that manufacturer would
appreciate comments and suggestions for improvement of their product, but I
forget
that we are dealing with ham radio stuff and things are not always "normal"
there.
Manufacturers keep cranking clicksing, noisy, spiky, overloady radios and we
have to fix and modify them. Maybe time to give them some competition.
Elecraft is quietly doing some remarkable steps in that direction for the right
money.
Yes, for $1000 less, few things could be overlooked, but for $3.6k there are
too many rough edges on this racer. Cheaper radios for years had better
ergonomics and packaging then TenTec stuff. But some people like VW, some like
Chevy, some will pay for Jaguar. It boils down to one's needs, means and
preferences.
