So far as I'm aware, all contest programs have provision for PTT control. However, I am unaware of any that provide the functionality you refer to for the Orion or any other rig.

The same computer program can then change the semi-BK-in delay when the last
character has been sent because on the Orion, everything is also adjustable

Carl

The computer knows exactly when the last character element of an
exchange has been sent and can reliquish PTT at exactly that moment. No
delay. Using semi BK-in the delay you set has to be long enough to be
sure you have sent that last character element before you revert to RX.
Working at high speed this extra delay causes problems.

The Orion "Amp Key" line will go to ground about 20 milliseconds before

Orion actually transmits a signal. It will then stay ground for up to a

second. It seems to me that this line provides all the timing that is
necessary to key external equipment and protect it from a transmit

signal.

Am I missing something?

There is also a variable QSK delay you can independently adjust for how
long it takes the receiver to come back on after transmit is finished.

This

delay is also adjustable from 0 to 1 second.

If I understand, you seem to consider PTT to be Phoot To Talk. PTT line

is

used by computer to switch system from receive to transmit and vice

With

bunch of equipment like amplifiers and switching systems for radios and

real feet.
