Dr. Jerry es group,

>> The small shaft WAS a part of the rebuild kit I
bought.

The brass shaft that contains the worm gear is the one
that the grounding pin rides on, neither the worm
drive nor the pistol can be obtained from TT.

>>And my PTO demanded it. It was badly worn.

Understandable, the wear is a function of how many
washers are placed on the rear cap, fewer washers
equal
more friction. I've noticed the most wear on the
brass sleeve from the ball bearings. Unless there
is quite a lot of use, the major failure in the PTO's
seems to be more often due to grease failure rather
than parts wear.

>> The shaft grounding not only adds a little
rotational stiffness, it cuts down on hand capacity
effects that can otherwise occur when the grease
is keeping the shaft insulated from ground.

I seem to remember that the brass collar is insulated
from the PTO housing by a plastic part, so the effect
of grounding the shaft when it would ordinarily be
"floating" would be even greater. I used the pins to
ground it in the beginning, and may go back to it, but
it took me 3 or 4 times of having that PTO in and out
to get it dialed in properly and those pins just love
to fall back behind the front panel!

>>How is it that while Tentec built every Tentec PTO
and rebuilt many that their choice of grease is not
the best.

TT demands that their Agway grease is just essential.
Granted, it makes the process of PTO rebuild possible
in one try because it is just so thick and sticky, but
I've seen it dry up in a year and how nasty it gets
after an even longer time and would just as soon avoid
it myself.

>>Unless one uses special (and expensive fuses made of

silver wire) semiconductor fuses, no fuse acts as fast
as a transistor in croaking from excess current.

That's what I've heard. Quite interesting about the
thermal aspect of the AirPax, I never would have
considered that.

>>AGC circuit mods tend to be best in the eyes of
their creator.

For certain. When I first got the Corsair II, the
barky audio and pop had me looking to post an sell it
- quick. Thankfully I found a resolution for the pop
and learned to appreciate the "light" AGC
characteristics. It is unique.

After some time and A/B comparisons, I found myself
reducing the AGC voltage on my K2 in order to
approximate the Corsair II!
