Those who have had good results with ground mounted radials may be in good
earth areas. We who have almost no earth to call RF ground, have found
elevated ground planes and radials very effective.
Remember, there will be some effect depending on how high the roof is RF
wise in terms of wavelengths for a given band. There may still be some
interaction with Mother earth by the house, depending on your RF ground
Conductivity. Set it up, and try it out, you will quickly find out if it is
right for you and your location. Generalizations about RF grounds vary in
value depending on where you are in the world. Extreme desert locations and
equatorial tropic locations have very poor RF ground, one for lack of
moisture and the other for excess moisture leaching out the conductive salts
of local earth.
