I have followed these tuner postings with interest and am surprised that no one has considered the tuner from the receiver standpoint. There is little to no selectivity for the transistorized rf amplifier and it is subject to being driven into superiors output by an adjacent strong signal. This is worse on ssb than cw, and that is why you have an attn button to reduce the sensitivity. Try tuning in a crowded band with the tuner off, and off frequency then turn it on, works much better.
