To all & Duane, Denny & company.

After reading Denny's reply, I took a closer look at my Omni VI+. Using
a HP generator for carrier, I measured audio output from the external
speaker jack using a HP Distortion analyzer. This method measured
THD+N. The DSP processed signal has less THD and with less residual
noise than with DSP off. This is exactly opposite of what Denny
describes. Perhaps an external noise which is perodic rather than the
internal noise being random might make a difference in how the DSP
handles the signal thus a difference in distortion may result.

The radio is 2+ years old, exhibits a freq error of less than 30 Hz
after warmup of 10 min or more and has never had the covers off. At a
turn on cold condition, the radio will have a net error of 120 to 150 Hz
while the display shows no error. This error quickly comes within 50 Hz
within 2 min or less. I consider this typical. I do not keep the
external PSU on thus the warm up drift is expected as the time base
comes up to temp. The actual error will be slightly differenct from band
to band, but in no case is it greater than 50 Hz at present. I'll not
tweek the oscillators for this small error.

For reference: S/n 12A10507 purchased 3/18/98
