Alan, I have had that happen here when the battery on my battery powered wall clock gets low. A new battery cured my problem. Hope it will work for you. A few years ago I had the similar problem and upon inspection of my neighbors electric fence, I found a broken wire that was arcing....I used some insulated gloves and pliers and "patched" the problem....all was quiet again.
