Then I take this to mean that I should also run the
Astron supply in parallel with the battery. It will be
supplying a potential of 13+ volts, while the battery
will supply the needed current when the Astron
poops out?
The difference in input power to the amp is 1380
watts in with a good Ten Tec, expensive PS, but
as low as 1200 watts in with only the battery at
low charge. So the output P will be down, but
will anyone notice?

My battery will be outdoors; outside the window and out,
maybe 3 feet from the house. Temp outside has never gone
below 56 deg. F here in the 8 years we have been on
Kauai, nor never warmer than 86F, nice.
All in all, sounds as if I do not want a marine battery,
but a regular auto, wet or floated cell battery. And not,
by definition, a deep cycle battery, whatever that is
supposed to connote.
Interesting discussion on a Christmas evening. It is now
only 5 PM here on Kauai; the turkey is in the oven,
and my wife advises it will be ready at 6. She, my son,
mother, and my wife's sister are all playing pinochle,
while I play radio. No interesting DX on the bands just
now, at least that I can find out here in the DX hole
of the Pacific (we are way out of sync with the mainland
DX openings), so I am playing power supplies/batteries, hi.
Mike, N4NT, had suggested that one reason for the lousy
audio reports could be RF into an ungrounded Astron supply.
So, I took an ohm meter in: found both + and - terminals
read 0 ohms to the chassis when the PS is "off". So, do not
know if a ground from the neg. terminal of the Astron to
gnd. would help yet. Will try later. Dog needs to go
for a walk now, as the pinochle game continues.
