I have a Omni 6+ that has rather annoying problem and I wonder if others
might have noticed it too. The problem is not affecting the operation of
the radio, it is Just DAMN annoying..... expecially with a price tag of
2600 bucks.
When tuning the radio down in frequency (Turning the knob CCW) at a rate
of about 2 revs per second, the KHZ digit will very quickly jump to
another digit, then back again.
You might see the digits change say from 8, 7, 6, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1,
2, 1, 0 etc.
What acutally is happening is that the processor is causing the PLL to
jump up in frequency by about 1Khz or so. The amount of jump is
dependent upon the tuning rate settings. i.e., the slower the tuning
rate the smaller the amount of jump.
I have found that with a 5KHZ setting, the jump is about 1khz. This
malady is not a function of the encoder as that would cause smaller,
minute jumps.
Another test that will mimick the above and skitz out the CPU big time,
is to run the PLL to the LOWEST frequency it will tune (any band), go to
the FM mode, then turn the knob in the CCW direction at a rate of about
2-3 revs per second. If your radio is ok, you will not see anything
happen. If your radio has this problem like mine, you will see the lower
4 digits quickly change to other digits. If you stop quick enough, you
will notice the display is above where it should be. In other words, it
jumped up in frequency.
Another test is to zero the display to 7.000.00. with the finger index
at a particular point, turn the knob in the cw direction 6-7 turns, note
the frequecy you end up at. Then reverse direction and move the same
amount of turns in the CCW direction. You should end up at the same
frequency you started at (7.000.00) or very close to it.

This radio has been back for repair twice. Each time it comes back not
fixed. TT said they can not duplicate the problem, AND that all Omni 6's
will do the same thing with the tuning knob test.
Has anyone else experieced this same problem and what was the fix. Also,
I would be interested if some of you guys would do this test with your
radios and let me know if you see the same thing.
Thanks.
