I'm a QRP guy. So when I bought my Scout a couple of weeks ago, used
from TT, the first thing I did was crank it down to the 5 watts
advertised (I'm actually measuring about 3.8 watts). Works great, I've
made a lot of CW QRP contacts with it. I've also worked into Canada
and Mexico on SSB at about 5 watts...just fine.
So tonight, I hear ZS6IR calling CQ from South Africa on 7055, I try
and try but he doesn't hear me. So I grab my little plastic alignment
tool and turn the Scout to what appears to be all the way up (I'm only
measuring about 22 watts though). So I give a call and WOW...the
display starts jumping all over the place while I'm xmitting. Numbers
are whizzing by like a roulette wheel. I let off the mic and there I
am...on 7055 like I'm supposed to be. SWR was 1.2 to 1 into my 40m
dipole.
Is this rig supposed to flicker and jump the display when keying down
in SSB mode??
Anyone?
