Tom, I think you are heading in the right direction.
You have most of what you need with the OMNI  V.
I can't recommend many keyers as I have always used MFJ
with good results. You might want to start with a hand key then
go to a keyer later.But if you want to learn CW, put the microphone
in the closet!
