Hi Bernie,
Wouldn't the R-7000 be a little large for portable use? I think that it
requires a lot of construction to set up. Maybe more than you want to do in
the field. The best bet in my book is two ways and I've done both. Get some
telescoping aluminum tubing of about 8 or 10' lengths and you can mark the
tubing for each band and adjust for 1/4 WL. This way no loading is needed
except on 80M where 1/4WL is pretty long. You can also set it to 1/4 WL on
10 meters and with a loading coil at the base use all bands but a full 1/4
WL would be better. You can also do the same thing in effect with the Army
Surplue MS whip sections from Fair Radio. These are in about 3' sections and
screw together. You can then use magnet or hookup wire at the base for the
radials and just lay it on the ground. 73 Jim K4CGY?
