The braino that stands out in my mind goes back to when I was into
packet. My TNC suddenly wasn't working - turn it on and all of the
lights would just flutter. It wasn't until *after* I had posted a help
message on the Compuserve ham radio forum that I realized that I had
plugged the wrong power adapter into it - AC instead of the required DC.
Happily, it survived, and worked fine once plugged into the correct
power adapter.
Also, from the Aug 2014 NAQP CW:
The first few hours of the contest, I seemed to be bothered with some
sort of background noise. Finally figured out that the noise blanker
had been turned on. Since I rarely turn it on (on the DX-77T, the noise
blanker isn't worth turning on), it took awhile to realize that that was
the problem. Copy was much easier with it off.
