I'm a 30+ year LM of the ARRL myself, and have basically stopped
complaining and making my opinion known to both my director and K1ZZ.
Not good for the blood pressure.
I don't know how private the mentioned request was...seems like I saw
something about that in the past couple months in the ARRL Letter or
similar.
I have said this in the past and believe it to be true. The push for
no-code licensing is just an initial step toward eliminating CW from
the airwaves completely, although the supporters of no-code deny this.
I think this step just moves closer to that end. I don't think it
will totally be eliminated in my lifetime, but I do think it will be
less enjoyable to operate due to regulatory changes.
Remember, it's not paranoia if they're really out to get you!
